Spas in Washington DC Where Luxury and Green Co-Exist
Nusta prides itself on being green, and is one of the most luxurious spas in Washington DC. The nine treatment rooms, men's and women's lounges, refreshment center, hydro suite, retail boutique, nail services center, group lounge, and spa lounge were built with the environment in mind. We are proud to be pioneers - the first urban day spa to become LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which means we are the gold standard of green design.
When we took over the 5000 square foot building we recycled all of the equipment that was on site. We happily donated the old kitchen equipment, and the ceiling tiles to be used for another project. The lighting and door fixtures went to a non-profit organization in Baltimore that reuses, and recycles materials.
The men's and women's lounges were painted with eco-friendly materials that do not emit volatile organic compounds, which can be irritating and unhealthy for clients. Our spa lounge incorporates fluorescent lighting which uses 75% less energy, and lasts 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. Even the reception area is green. It was built with local resources that were quarried within 500 miles of the Washington DC spas property. Guests who use the hydro suite will be pleased to know that over 50% of the products that we use are recycled, which cuts down on unnecessary waste. It is also important to note that all of our tanning equipment is UV free. The nail services suite is not only comfortable, but friendly to the environment. Most of the furnishings are manufactured with reusable and returnable packaging. Each treatment room has LED colored lighting, which uses up to 75% less energy. The lighting is based on the Ayurvedic healing principle of colored light therapy, which relaxes, and promotes health and well-being. All of our appliances are energy efficient, and cut down on excessive energy use. We only use biodegradable laundry detergents, and cleaning products, which are non-toxic and healthier for our clients. The non-chlorine bleach greatly improves our air quality.
Our modular flooring throughout the facility is recycled, and renewable, and meets, or exceeds the Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label. Our maple flooring was manufactured using materials from a sustainable forest. Bamboo is used throughout the spa, and is both aesthetic and environmentally friendly. Bamboo has a very short harvest cycle, is a sustainable material, and cuts down on land use. Our ceiling was also recycled, and came from a renovation project, and one of the oak walls was built with beams that were salvaged from an old barn. We are one of the only spas in Washington DC that has carbon dioxide sensors. These sensors monitor the air quality inside the spa.
Even the retail boutique is green, and carries products that guests can test before they buy. SkinCeuticals, MD Skincare, B Kamins, along with Nusta's own line are all available in the boutique. Our line contains botanical ingredients, which are healthy for the planet, and our clients.
Luxury and green go together at one of the most well known Washington DC spas.
